About the exhibition:
Burki’s practice is concerned with a vocabulary of symbols, forms and compositions that have, over the years, moved between non-representational and figurative. His work has evolved through subtle variations and reductions; moving towards greater abstraction, the new series of works at Grey Noise mark a distinct shift in his practice.
Without predefined ideas, Burki's creative process is intuitively marked with repetition, symmetry and intervals. The compositions are playfully crafted with lines, geometric forms, grids and blank spaces.
The new work brings together the Lahore-based artist’s explorations that evoke a sense of transience and permeability - the works tend to dwell between the personal and the mystical.
About Fahd Burki:
b. 1981, Lahore, Pakistan / Lives and works in Lahore
Burki graduated from the National College of Arts, Lahore in 2003 and received a Postgraduate Diploma from the Royal Academy of Arts, London in 2010.
Since 2004, his works have been exhibited at various international art fairs, galleries, and institutions including: India Art Fair, New Delhi, India / Dhaka Art Summit, Dhaka, Bangladesh / GALLERYSKE, Bangalore, India / Carré D’Art, Nîmes, France / Grey Noise, Dubai, UAE / LISTE, Basel, Switzerland / Yallay space, Hong Kong / Artissima, Turin, Italy / India Art Summit, New Delhi, India / Art Dubai, Dubai, UAE.
Over a span of 10 years, Burki has received immense recognition and appreciation for his intriguing works amongst the art community and was awarded with the John Jones Art on Paper Award at Art Dubai in 2013. He was also selected as one among 10 international artists to undertake a research based residency at the Edinburgh Printmakers in 2013 for their project, Below another sky, a collaborative programme developed by the Scottish Print Networks.
In 2014 a monograph of the artists work was published in association with Skira editore, Milan.
